Ready to Unplug? These are the Destinations for You

We love all kinds of travel—adventure, family, student, touring…you get the picture. In fact, we love it so much that our whole concept is built on providing accessible information about travel insurance for each of those different travel styles. We know it’s useful for us, and we’re guessing there are others who feel the same!man sitting on dock overlooking water with lamp next to feet

That said, sometimes we need a vacation where the whole idea is to just unplug and take a break for a minute. No email, no social media…just us, nature, a good book—whatever it is that feels relaxing to us. If you’re looking for a place to do just that, here are our top picks to get you started:

The Valley, Anguilla

We don’t know about you, but when we think about relaxation, we often think about lying on a beach. Anguilla, a small Caribbean Island, has them in spades, and they’re truly some of the most beautiful in the world, with white sand beaches and electric blue waters. The main reason Anguilla makes the list is because it’s beaches–and the entire island, in fact– is so secluded. If you head to a beach  with too many people for your liking, you can just walk to another and find the peace and quiet you’re looking for. If you’re worried about getting antsy, you can hop on a boat trip, go horseback riding, or head to a golf course–all places where technology wouldn’t fare so well. If you’re looking for a quiet place to stay to round out your relaxation vacation, try the Turtle’s Nest Beach Resort or the Frangipani Beach Resort–both known for their tranquil atmospheres and quiet rooms.

Patagonia, Chile

If you’re looking for an experience that’s a bit more rustic, Patagonia might be what you’re looking for. While you could definitely use this trip as part adventure, part relaxation, the latter is what we’re going to tell you about. Patagonia is known for its stunning beauty and relative isolation, depending on where you stay. There are lots of options, but our favorite is the Remota Hotel, a sustainable lodge where the focus is on handcrafted charm and solitude. The rooms at the Remota Hotel lack televisions, encouraging guests to opt outside, taking in the vast view of the sky and mountains surrounding the lodge. In fact, each room has a view of the mountains and fjords, so even just reading a book in bed feels special. While you’re staying there, you can try low key excursions like bird watching, biking, and horseback riding if you’re interested, ending your days with a meal prepared by the lodge’s world-class chef and team.large snow-capped mountain

San Marcos, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

We’ve talked about Lake Atitlan before—and if you’ve been there, you know why. The Guatemalan lake is surrounded by volcanoes and lush greenery with towns positioned in between. Each town is different, so you can explore different elements of Guatemalan culture as you hop from town to town. When it comes to unplugging, we highly recommend checking out San Marcos, a town known for its focus on integrative health and wellness, meditation, mindfulness, and yoga. In fact, there are several places where you can take part in a retreat where you live and learn from yogis and mindfulness gurus from all over the world, spending your days learning how to be present and relieve stress. You can also choose to stay in a separate hotel or inn and attend classes and events when you’re able and interested. Plus, there are tons of places where you can get a spa treatment, like acupuncture or a massage, followed by a meal on the lake.
