Some even offer opportunities to get your adrenaline pumping in new and exciting ways. But, as with all types of travel, it can be especially difficult choosing a honeymoon destination. Gansabaai, South Africa

Imagine this: You’re underwater, face to face with a Great White Shark, but you’re totally safe from harm. If that sounds like something you’d be into, you have to head to Gansbaai, South Africa, one of the few places where you can observe Great Whites in their natural environment. Located around 120 miles southeast from Cape Town, Gansbaai’s waters are home to Shark Alley, a sea channel off the Cape coast, where sharks go to hunt. There are some guidelines as to where exactly you should go for your best shot at a sighting during different times of year.

From April through August or September, your best bet is to visit Dyer Island or Geyser Rock. If you’re traveling from September to March, head to Shark Bay. While you don’t necessarily need to go cage diving to spot a Great White. But if you’re open to the experience, we highly recommend it! Either way, you’ll want to get yourself on a boat to see a Great White from the surface, rather than hoping to see one from the beach.

Interlaken, Switzerland

If you ask us, one of the most adrenaline-filled adventures you can embark on is skydiving. Interlaken is known as a hub for adventure seekers of all sorts, but especially skydiving enthusiasts. Why? Located in the Swiss Alps, you’ll get views of one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the world. You might even spot Italy, France, Germany, and Austria–depending on your dive height. It is a truly epic experience, and not one for the faint of heart. If you’re a true adventure enthusiast, it’s not to be missed. Plus, there are a number of other outdoor activities available to you in Interlaken, including hang gliding, paragliding, kayaking, rafting, and jet boating, so you’ll be able to keep your blood pumping for your entire trip, if you’re so inclined.

Powder South, Chile

If you’re a skier, your honeymoon is a great time to take it to the next level…with heli-skiing. What is heli-skiing, you ask? It’s off-trail downhill skiing, accessed by helicopter rather than chairlift, which means you can access much more remote (and often much more adventurous terrains) than you can at a resort. And perhaps one of the best places to heli-ski in the world is in Chile. “Powderhounds”, or hardcore skiing enthusiasts, head to Powder South, Chile for the altitude, snow quality, and breathtaking views of the Andes mountains. While some heli-skiing excursions require you to be an expert skier, you can find terrain for all levels of ability at Powder South, as well as world-class guides to take you on your adventure safely. In between hitting the slopes, you can stay at a luxurious lodge nestled in the mountains. And don’t forget to enjoy delicious Chilean food to round out the experience!

To many, the ultimate outdoor adventure is hiking Mount Everest in Nepal. Though you have to be an experienced and skilled climber to reach the mountain’s summit, less seasoned adventurers can opt to hike to its base camp, which is an incredibly epic experience in and of itself. The trek will likely take you around 20 days, depending on the group you go with, so this one is for honeymooners with some time to spare.

Before you head out on your adventure, spend a couple of days in Kathmandu. Spend some time taking in its history and cuisine, learning about its Sherpa culture, and perusing its monasteries. Then, get ready to embark on the hike of a lifetime, trekking 17,590 feet to your base camp destination. You’ll have to take some time in advance to prep with your group before you head out, and then your Sherpa will guide the whole crew to the base safely. It’s a physical feat, but one that’s well worth it for the second-to-none views and experience.

Costa Rica

If you’re not totally sure what kinds of thrills you’re seeking on your honeymoon, but know that you want to spend your time participating in beautiful and exciting outdoor activities, look no further than Costa Rica. Known for its gorgeous scenery and friendly people, it’s the perfect spot for active honeymooners. If you want to really make the most of your trip, we recommend moving  around while you’re there, rather than settling in one place. One of our favorite spots is Arenal Volcano National Park, where you can go on an epic hike and then take a ride on the sky trek. We also highly recommend that you try a canopy tour through the Montezuma Waterfall. No matter which route you choose, you’ll find some kind of adventure against an impressive backdrop, from ziplining to whitewater rafting to rainforest hiking to sea kayaking, and more!

This probably goes without saying if you’re an avid adventurer, but for these types of excursions, it’s more important than ever to keep yourself safe with travel insurance. We’ve broken out what you should be looking for with these kinds of trips here, to make it as easy as possible for you to get covered.
